Jinping Hydropower Station
Jinping Hydropower Station
Jinping Hydropower Station includes Jinping 1 Hydropower Station and Jinping 2 Hydropower Station, with total capacity of 8000~8400 megawatts.

Jinping I Hydropower Station is a large hydroelectric power generation on the Yalong River in Sichuan, China. It is currently under construction. The station is on the border of the Yanyuan and Muli districts in the autonomous Liangshan Yi Area of the Sichuan Province. The Yalong River, which the dam will control, is the largest tributary of the Jinsha River. For the project, approximately 7,500 inhabitants will be relocated.
The objectives of this project are to supply energy for expanding industrialization and urbanization, improve flood protection, and prevent erosion.
The design height of the concrete dam is 305m, which is the highest double curvature thin arch dam in the world. The construction difficulties are also rarely encountered in the world. The normal water level is 1880m, and the dead water level is 1800m. The reservoir capacity below the normal water level is 7.765 billion m3 and the regulating capacity is 4.91 billion m3. The power station will have six turbines, each capable of producing 600 megawatts, for a total of 3600 megawatts. The annual production of Jinping 1 Hydropower Station is estimated to be between 16 and 18 TW•h (billion kW•h).
Construction work began on 12 November 2005. It is expected to be completed by Year 2013.
